The idea of Manifest Destiny does not influence our decision making today. If I thought God was going to get me into sweet college no matter what because it was my destiny then what would be the point of taking this class? and thus writing this blog? People arent sure of there destiny and thats why they work so hard for their accomplishments.

Manifest Destiny still influences our decisions today. Even though we don’t believe exactly that “God has destined America to spread its empire of liberty,” the idea behind this is still evident in our country today. America may not physically be expanding, but we are expanding our ideas of democracy and liberty throughout the world. America feels its ideas are right, and therefore we are trying to help other countries have the same kind of government that we have. Often, people see that Americas government is the best and that it is the way God sees all countries should be. We, in a way, show this by saying “under God” in the pledge of allegiance, showing that God is the reason our country is so successful.

Countless citizens in the 1840s and 1850s, feeling a sense of mission, believed the Almighty God had "manifestly" destined the American people for a hemispheric career. Land greed and ideals where thus conveniently conjoined.

I agree with Paige in that manifest destiny was used to justify our greed for land and power.

Manifest Destiny still does impact us today. I think some Americans still have the mentality that we are the "supreme" nation and that "God has chosen us". Most Americans feel entitled to certain things like, nice cars, big houses and the best professions. However, we still may be the most democratic nation and maybe even the wealthiest, there is a lot of selfishness that caused us to be like this. Granted, our founding fathers did put a lot into this nation to make it what it is today, but we still have thoughts that we're the best and that it's "our way or the highway" with international issues, like Iraq and Afghanistan.

I agree with Molly for a couple of reasons. We do think that our government has the best ways, on paper. Maybe not every person agrees with what is going on with our government, but on paper they like the idea of each person having a say on what goes on in the White House. We do have the mentality that the United States of America is the land of opportunity and success.

I agree with Taylor saying "Granted, our founding fathers did put a lot into this nation to make it what it is today, but we still have thoughts that we're the best and that it's "our way or the highway" with international issues, like Iraq and Afghanistan." I also truly believe that the US is considered strong and almighty when it comes to dealing with foreign nations. We're always the ones to come to the rescue and help out nations like Iraq.

I do not believe that manifest destiny influences us today. It was about gaining land and spreading our borders and I think that it ended with the purchase of Alaska and annexation of Hawaii. I’m sure we will get more land in the future but it will be so miniscule most Americans or the world will hardly notice.

I disagree with Taylor. Manifest destiny had to do with expanding from coast-to-coast on the continent. Even a broader interpretation might be the expanding of land, but we have been in a war with Afghanistan and Iraq for quite some time now. Whether you support the war or not I think we can all agree that we are not there to take their land.

The idea of Manifest Destiny sort of applies to our decision making today... we do not tell people that the reason why we are pressing our government system is because of God, but one of the main goals of the government is to spread democracy throughout the world. A lot of countries need to establish better government systems, and so America is being the mother and trying to teach the other countries how to become more successful by running under a democracy.

Manifest destiny does still apply today, though ideologically rather than theologically. America has and continues to involve itself in the matters of foreign affairs and impose American ideals in many of these situations. Today the United States pushes democracy and freedom in many countries expanding American influence rather than borders.

Manifest destiny continues to influence our decision making, and will for years to come. In every part of the world society, american culture and customs have taken some effect. Even though we still are not actively trying to expand our borders, we are expanding the borders of what people see as american culture.

Manifest Destiny is a belief that continues to influence american decision making today. Long ago when the idea of manifest destiny was still new, americans found it their right to expand their new country and the christian way of life. And americans have a tendency of still doing this. Take Iraq for example. We want them be democratic like us, so we go over there and kindof force it to happen. Americans want to spread their ways to rest of the world because that's what they believe is right.

I agree with Molly. Although the U.S. does not continue to expand in size, we are expanding by spreading democracy where we can.

It honestly depends who you are. For some you could say the manifest destiny takes part in their choices. But there are also those whom it doesn't. So for me personally it does not. I do not need to make a decision around my religion and it's beliefs. Therefore I don't.

Manifest Destiny is definitely a factor in many decisions made by governments and even regular people these days. Now, the drive to expand and populate has extended to a need to explore and inhabit the far reaches of space, because that has the potential to keep humans alive longer. That will always be an instinct that we follow, which is why Manifest Destiny will always be present.

i agree with Ken, because he focuses on the Americans' manifest destiny. We, as a people, are notorious for a lust for expansion, an example being our extension across the majority of North America.
